Transitions are rarely easy. It takes a lot of trust in ourselves, strong intentions, and an unyielding dedication to creating a solid foundation to move smoothly into the next phase.
To simplify things, I sometimes like to think of a particular fitness pose as "the place I aim to arrive in." The questions I challenge myself with: How can I be fully present with where I am now, so I don't try to jump to the end without creating the proper foundation? What can I do to stabilize myself when I start to get shaky? How can I find the strength to believe in myself when things fall apart? The motivation to try again? And, knowing that "arriving" in a pose is only the beginning of the process, where do I find the courage to stay with it? Instead of moving on to what seems to be the next best thing.
Part of my yoga is translation. Understanding the conversation between the mind, the spirit, the body, and the heart. Whether we know it or not, we are always transitioning in one way or another. How we choose to navigate them will determine our levels of success in moving toward the lives we imagine for ourselves. And it's never too late to choose to be mindful in our relationships with ourselves and with others alike.
